ABOUT THIS ISSUE

The world has been watching as genocide, human rights violations, and war crimes ravage Gaza. Not to mention the traumatic conflicts in Sudan, Syria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ukraine, and Yemen. We are heartbroken by the lives and lands already destroyed, and are horrified by what the aftermath may look like. As violence razes across the globe, we wanted Issue 14 to lay foundations for what can come after.

This is why we asked for your stories about starting over, whether by choice or force. Your explorations of falling outs, collapsed paths, the consequences of actions. Writing about rehabilitation, resilience, remaking. Words on both the erosion and the dam. Fiction, poetry, and hybrid that fights back after the war is over.

In conjunction with publishing the thoughtful and resonant writing of our Issue 14 contributors, and being able to award the three winners monetarily from the submission funds, we have also used submission proceeds to donate to Save the Children, who provide essential services and support on the ground in the West Bank and Gaza to Palestinian children impacted by the ongoing conflict. Please check them out to learn more about all the important work they do.

Thank you so much to everyone who submitted to RE:BUILD. It’s through our submission fees that we were able to pay our featured writers and donate to such an important cause. And thank you to all of our readers without whom none of this would be possible.

“Life fascinates me.
Textures and patterns excite me.
Sculpting makes me happy.
Destructive human activities push me into despair.
Emotions drive me insane.
Creating art balances everything out.”
